The “Dune” television series prequel at HBO Max has found its new showrunner.

Variety has learned exclusively that Diane Ademu-John has boarded “Dune: The Sisterhood” in the role of writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Jon Spaihts had previously been attached to run the series, but he stepped down in November 2019 to focus on writing the script for the second of the “Dune” reboot films.

Showrunner : Diane Ademu-John

Boussnina plays Princess Ynez, an independent young princess dealing with the pressures of her responsibility as heir to the Golden Lion Throne.

Brune-Franklin portrays Mikaela, a strong-willed Fremen woman who serves the royal family while longing for a home planet she’s never known.

Cunningham is Sister Jen, a fierce, unpredictable acolyte in training at the Sisterhood School who rarely reveals her emotional core.

Hinds plays Sister Emeline, a zealous acolyte descended from a long line of martyrs, who carries fervent religion to her training at the Sisterhood.

Lea portrays Lila, the youngest acolyte at the Sisterhood School with a deep empathy beyond her years.

- Strong will play Emperor Javicco Corrino, a man from a great line of war-time Emperors, who is called upon to govern the Imperium and manage a fragile peace.
- Anouka portrays Sister Theodosia, a talented and ambitious acolyte at the Sisterhood who harbors a dangerous secret about her past.
- Mason plays Keiran Atreides, a Swordmaster to a Great House whose ambition to live up to his family name is disrupted when he forms an unexpected connection to a member of the royal family.

La créatrice Diane Ademu-John, scénariste du pilote, a quitté son poste en novembre dernier, laissant Alison Schapker aux commandes comme unique showrunner de la série. Selon Deadline, ces changements ont envenimé la production : Schapker et son équipe ont dû procéder à des réécritures de dernières minutes alors que la série commençait déjà son tournage à Budapest.

Comme si cela ne suffisait pas, deux mauvaises nouvelles viennent de tomber : Dune : The Sisterhood faisant l'objet d'un remodelage créatif, le réalisateur et l'actrice principale ont dit bye-bye au projet. L'approche de Johan Renck, qui s'était engagé à réaliser les deux premiers épisodes, ne correspondait apparemment plus à la vision d'HBO Max et s'éloignait du look des films de Denis Villeneuve. En raison de ce départ prématuré, le tournage a donc été mis en attente et repoussé de sept mois, Schapker et son équipe ayant besoin de temps pour retravailler les scénarios et trouver un nouveau réalisateur.

"Alors que Dune : The Sisterhood a entamé une pause programmée, des changements créatifs ont été apportés à la production afin de créer la meilleure série possible et de rester fidèle au matériau d'origine. Johan Renck a terminé son travail sur la série et un nouveau réalisateur va être engagé ; d'un commun accord, Johan va poursuivre d'autres projets", a déclaré un porte-parole d'HBO Max à Deadline.
